Bill 2 is the second issue of an annual magazine of photographic stories, edited and designed by Julie Peeters. Twelve contributors present new or previously unpublished work. Bill prioritizes visual reading without distraction, the images that appear in the magazine are printed without any accompanying text. Contributors to the second issue are: Gintaras Didziapetris, Jason Dodge, Archiv Hans Hollein, Inge Ketelers, Tadashi Kurahashi by Tadanori Yokoo–Tadanori Yokoo by Tadashi Kurahashi, Jochen Lempert, Raimundas Malasauskas, Bart Julius Peters / T L P S, Reto Schmid, Megan Francis Sullivan, Linda van Deursen, Ann Woo, and Jiajia Zhang.

Iwata Nakayama (1895–1949) is regarded as a one of the most important contributors to the Shinko Shashin movement. After graduating from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1918, he received a scholarship from the Japanese government and went to California before settling in New York. At the same time Nakayama was attracted to avant-garde movements and moved in bohemian circles where he met Shimizu Toshi. Shimizu encouraged him to move to Paris in 1926 where he met Man Ray, Fujita Tsuguji, and Enrico Prompolini. These encounters left a deep impression on him and when he returned to Japan in 1927 he energetically set about forming his own vision of ‘pure art photography’. In 1929 he settled in Ashiya (nr. Kobe) and in the following year founded the Ashiya Camera Club with Hanaya Kambei, Korai Seiji, and others. This club became the main driving force of New Photography in Japan. Together with Kimura and Nojima he founded Koga magazine in 1932 that was the most important forum for artistic photography at the time.

Published on the occasion of Wols Photograph, at Museum Ludwig, Köln, 31 January–11 March, 1979. Wols was the pseudonym of Alfred Otto Wolfgang Schulze (27 May 1913, Berlin–1 September 1951, Paris), a German painter and photographer predominantly active in France. Though broadly unrecognized in his lifetime, he is considered a pioneer of lyrical abstraction, one of the most influential artists of the Tachisme movement.

Zolang je niet zo over problemen praat zie je er toch niks van / As long as you don’t talk about problems so much you won’t see them anyway is a photobook about empathy in psychiatry. Portraits of people in conversation and observations in body language are combined with textual dialogues. This project originated during a residency in Het Vijfde Seizoen, the residency on the terrain of a psychiatric institution in Den Dolder, NL. In the book you are made to ponder the (in)ability to place yourself into another’s shoes, the absurdity of mental illness as well as the familiarity and humanity of those who suffer from voices in their head, delusions, psychoses and depression. The title is a quote from one of the portrayed patients and brings to doubt the work itself and the possibility to photograph something that is so complicated.
