Dreaming Alcestis is an artist’s book by artist and filmmaker Beatrice Gibson, conceived as an accompaniment to her holographic film installation of the same name. Dreaming Alcestis was co-directed and co-scripted by Gibson, her partner Nicholas Gordon and critic Maria Nadotti. The publication features a specially commissioned essay by poet and translator Allison Grimaldi Donahue, as well as a reprint of the American poet Alice Notley’s 1991 essay What Can Be Learned From Dreams? This book by Lucy McKenzie presents her work from a three year period in text and image. Her huge paintings illustrate interiors and reference interior design drafts from the 19th century. In these paintings, which are up to eight metres tall, in this book she explains the motivation behind her complex approach. This is complimented by two more written pieces: a fictional account of her time studying Trompeloeil painting at the Ecole van der Kelen (a traditional painting school in Brussels) and a homage to the fashion designer Beca Lipscombe, one of her collaborators in Atelier EB.

Produced on the occasion of the exhibition Margaret Raspé: Automatik at Haus am Waldsee, Berlin, the first comprehensive retrospective exhibition by the Berlin-based artist. Over the past five decades, Raspé has created a significant body of work in the immediate vicinity of the institution, developing an idiosyncratic artistic language that considers life and art, and their everyday conditions, in unison. In addition to her acclaimed film works from the 1970s and 80s, Raspé’s oeuvre consists of performances, photo series, sound works, and large-scale installations in both indoor and outdoor settings.
