This artist’s book designed by Belgian artist Olivier Foulon is the result of a years-long research into Isa Genzken’s abandoned sculpture project Ring, a public sculpture originally planned for the exhibition Beelden in de Stad/Sculpture in the City as part of Rotterdam ’88 from 13 May–1 October 1988, whose various prefabricated parts allegedly still lie dormant in the port of Rotterdam. It features two essays on Isa Genzken by Jan van Adrichem, a section gathering archival documents, and a comprehensive press kit referring to the aborted project.

German artist and 2017 Turner Prize nominee Andrea Büttner examines depictions of beggars in visual culture in an artist’s book about poverty, art history, theology, and the politics of social benefits. Büttner, whose work addresses notions of shame, vulnerability, and dignity, presents a recent series of woodcuts, as well research conducted at the Warburg Institute in London, including sixteenth-century vignettes from the “Liber Vagatorum” and a visual essay on the iconography of shepherds and kings in nativity scenes.

Jochen Lempert photographs the animal world in the most diverse contexts: from their natural habitat to the museum of natural history, from the zoo to the urban environment, in remote places or banal settings and situations. Lempert compiles his findings in a vast archive of images covering an ample spectrum, from common everyday views, to compositions that tend towards abstraction. This interest in the natural world as a subject has been further complemented by his exploration of the properties and materiality of the photographic image. Analogue, black and white, hand-printed in the darkroom, his photographs resist categorization and confront the canons of today’s aesthetic.

This artist’s book gathers the 67 photographs that make up the contact sheet #234 of the photographs taken by Jef Geys during the 1969 Tour de France, the year of Eddy Merckx’s first victory and the same day as the man’s first step on the moon.

A collection of visual incursions by Italian artist Emilio Prini in dozens of exhibition catalogues and print publications over the course of five decades. Meticulously researched, and yet necessarily incomplete, this book is a glimpse into the subtlety with which Prini turned each engagement with the world of ideas into a joust for mastery over space, time, and form.

In his work, Arte Povera artist Emilio Prini (1943–2016) used photography, sound and written texts to challenge the viewer’s perception and experience. Highlighting particular elements, he often revealed the relationship between reality and its reproduction.

To C.L.S.’, ‘For A.L.M.’, ‘In Memory of J.V.C.’—Starting from his collection of three-letter dedications, Dedication(s) looks at public yet hidden modes of address. While these dedications appear in printed books, they remain private, intimate allusions between author and intended recipient. The project infers the strange position of the reader who encounters these cryptic dedications, which perhaps get in the way of—or better clarify?—the relationship between author and audience. Waart’s project questions the relationship between a work and the reality in which it comes about, and why, and for whom, we make what we make.
