Correspondences: de Appel 1975–2025 traces the activities of de Appel through letters, telegrams, airmail, postcards, faxes, and emails, sent to and by de Appel. The book features materials by more than a hundred different authors and includes paper-based and digital correspondence by, amongst many others, Laurie Anderson, James Lee Byars, Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, General Idea, Mona Hatoum, Patricia Kaersenhout and Carolee Schneemann. Context is provided by written guest contributions by Alice Butler, Alison Burstein, Annet Dekker, Susan Gibb and Brian Fuata and de Appel’s archivist Nell Donkers. An edition by Alison Knowles in the shape of a ribbon forms a special prompt to the reader of the book.

Over a career spanning five decades, Günther Förg (1952–2013) developed a distinctive and prolific body of work, including experiments in abstraction and monochrome painting, against the general trend of figurative painting predominant in Germany in the 1980s. Wall paintings, sculptures, large format photographs, portraits and architectural views, as well as drawings and graphics, executed in a range of mediums, bear witness to the innovative diversity of the artist’s approach.

John Latham (1921–2006) was a pioneer of British conceptual art, who, through painting, sculpture, performances, assemblages, films, installation and extensive writings, fuelled controversy and continues to inspire. A visionary in mapping systems of knowledge, whether scientific or religious, he developed his own philosophy of time, known as ‘Event Structure.’

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Jože Plečnik (1872–1957), a key figure of the Modernist movement in architecture and creator of numerous buildings and monuments around the city of Ljubljana, in 2022 Luca Lo Pinto and Olaf Nicolai curated an exhibition titled I Am Only the Housekeeper, but I Don’t Know… in the Slovenian architect’s former home. The publication retraces the contemporary interventions undertaken by the curatorial duo, who invited twenty-five internationally recognised Slovenian and foreign artists, allowing them to enter the house through their own works to commemorate Plečnik’s oeuvre and place its reading into a different and more contemporary context.

Francis Picabia was a French avant-garde painter, writer, filmmaker, magazine publisher, poet, and typographist. He was one of the early major figures of the Dada movement in the United States and in France and was later briefly associated with Surrealism, but would soon turn his back on the art establishment.
