Documenting Cadere, 1972–1978 is curated by Lynda Morris and draws on her personal archive and the archives of the Herbert Collection, Ghent, Massimo Minini, Brescia and Barry Barker, London.

André Cadere belonged to a generation of European artists who contested the art object and institutional framework of the art world in which they operated. Best known for carrying his Barres de Bois Rond—Round Bars of Wood—wherever he went. His appearances at the most important private views of contemporary art across Europe became legendary. With his round bar of wood in hand he would intervene in a provocative way on other artists’ exhibitions in galleries and museums.

The publication contains new translations of lectures given by Cadere; an interview with the artist conducted by Morris in 1976; plus new essays by Morris, and two other figures who worked closely with Cadere, British curator Barry Barker and Italian gallerist Massimo Minini. In her work, Anicka Yi explores life forms, organisms and microbiological processes with “multinatural perspectivism”. The exhibition booklet explores further the clashes and unions between natural and artificial bringing Yi’s work together with illustrations by British botanist Margaret Mee, a pioneer in environmental activism in the Amazon Basin. The double sided booklet which can be read in English or German contains the exhibition guide, the essay The Notion of Species in History and Anthropology by Eduardo Viveiros de Castello and the script of Yi’s film The Flavour Genome.

Artist publication by Zarouhie Abdalian in collaboration with Julie Peeters detailing Abdalian’s solo exhibition at LAXART in 2017, curated by Micki Meng. The catalog centers around seven tools and tool heads (titled: brunt) and several casts of the worked surface of a long derelict chalk mine (titled: from chalk mine hollow). Tara McDowell in the accompanying text describes the work as “near-future monuments to our own self-made epoch, the Anthropocene.” With texts by Joseph Rosenzweig and Tara McDowell. This new volume in the Occasional Table series of critical anthologies focusses on the act of distribution as a subject for serious creative consideration and one of great social and economic importance. Contributors from a variety of backgrounds paint a picture that embraces the actions of the individual along-side the workings of global markets. From the attention-seeking impulse of the poseur to the democratisation of art and knowledge through books, digital networks, pop music, and self-organised libraries, and to the question of what can be known and by whom, the urge to disseminate is explored here as an elemental phenomenon of our time.
