Produced on the occasion of the exhibition Margaret Raspé: Automatik at Haus am Waldsee, Berlin, the first comprehensive retrospective exhibition by the Berlin-based artist. Over the past five decades, Raspé has created a significant body of work in the immediate vicinity of the institution, developing an idiosyncratic artistic language that considers life and art, and their everyday conditions, in unison. In addition to her acclaimed film works from the 1970s and 80s, Raspé’s oeuvre consists of performances, photo series, sound works, and large-scale installations in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Riffing off the title, this volume includes an interview with Carolyn Lazard—an artist whose conceptual and often spare videos, sculptures, installations, and performances explore the full amplitude of relation—by Catherine Damman, plus a feature on New York-based contemporary artist Tishan Hsu, whose practice examines the “embodiment of technology”, and contributions by time-based media artist Silvia Kolbowski, for whom political resistance, the unconscious, and structures of spectatorship are a central concern of all her projects; choreographer and dancer Yvonne Rainer; and science fiction author Octavia Butler. “Containing, restraining, reforming, hurting, compressing, binding, transforming a lumpy shape into a clean smooth line,” is how American artist Christina Ramberg once described the drawings of corsets in her sketchbooks. Ramberg was one of the most intriguing painters to emerge within a generation of Chicago Imagists. She left a significant body of comic, formally elegant, erotically sinister paintings.

Produced on the occasion of Portraits a solo exhibition by Ghislaine Leung displayed at Museum Abteiberg from 3 June–24 October, 2021, curated by Susanne Titz and Haris Giannouras. The exhibition comprised of works commissioned by Museum Abteiberg and produced over the duration of a year from 2020–21. The catalogue references the legendary box catalogues developed by previous museum director Johannes Cladders with Joseph Beuys in 1967. With essays from Bruce Hainley and Eleanor Ivory Weber.

On Property is set against the backdrop of one of the most speculative construction sites in Amsterdam: de Houthavens. This former port area (also the location where Cargo is located) is exemplary of how urban expansion is used as a means for speculation of property, with all its socio-economic consequences. On Property focuses on the subcutaneous and invisible lines of the idea of ownership, a concept that forces separations from public and private and that produces an unequal distribution of collective values.
