The exhibition traced the atypical trajectory of Belgian filmmaker, writer, and artist Chantal Akerman. From the very beginning in Brussels to the Mexican desert, from her very first films to her last installations in 2015. This is the first major exhibition on the Brussels-based artist, featuring unique and never-before-seen images, production, and working documents from her archive. Follow all the stages of her career through the years and places Akerman has traversed and filmed. She went there to work with media as diverse as film, television, text, and installation.

Józef Robakowski, a key figure of the 1960s and 1970s neo-avant-garde rebellion, is a master of structural cinema and a pioneer of Polish video art. In his practice he has tested viewers’ perceptual habits, developed ideas about mechanical recordings beyond any aesthetic convention, and criticized methods of visual persuasion in films, highlighting in particular the pompousness of political spectacles. A radical experimentalist and media analyst, Robakowski is known for his unique approach, “his own cinema,” in which autobiography replaces dubious history, and in which the artist proposes his own scenario for perceiving the reality of life under communism.

Michael Snow (1928–2023) was one of the world’s leading experimental filmmakers, having inspired the Structural Film movement with his groundbreaking film Wavelength, 1967. Snow’s extensive and multidisciplinary oeuvre includes painting, sculpture, video, film, sound, photography, holography, drawing, writing, and music.

The films of Frederick Wiseman, unparalleled as social and artistic documents of U.S. institutional life, have earned him international acclaim and generated continued controversy. His career and remarkable series of documentaries, beginning with the now famous Titicut Follies to later work Juvenile Court, Primate and Welfare, are covered in this collection of critical essays, interviews, reviews, complete filmography and a selective bibliography.

Margaret Honda’s films grow out of a sculptural practice that privileges a material relationship to the medium above any narrative or representational concerns. Honda aims to reconsider the standards of film production protocols, often rearranging the order in which things are done or utilising only certain aspects of the production chain.
