Kazuna Taguchi’s works are based on an analogue and hands-on approach at the intersection of painting and photography. In an intricate process, the artist combines various visual sources that she paints only to photograph them in various environments and setting that suit the attributes of each painting, and ultimately incorporates elements of chance while manipulating the prints in the darkroom. Taguchi compares the multiple layers and repeated interventions that lead to a permeation of myriad textures, time planes, and narrative spaces to the work of a painter who keeps tirelessly returning to her easel and brush.

These forms of social structures are reflected in the materials assembled in this catalogue: invitation cards, flyers, fanzines, journals, and texts from the 1990s and 2000s. Documents that are arranged chronologically on a timeline provide an insight into the developments of visual art at that time in Cologne and New York. Selected historical essays and reviews reflect virulent theoretical debates; interspersed data point to socio-political events and influential exhibitions. Henrik Olesen explores, with a conceptually rigorous approach, the structures of power relations and systems of knowledge, revealing some of their inherent logics, those which contribute to social and political regularisation.

Olesen employs cheap, everyday materials to make collages, posters, texts, sculptures, installations and architectural interventions which critically examine contemporary culture and socially disseminated normalisations, thereby questioning quotidian conventions in family structures, the construction of identities and their historiography, the media, legal discourses, art history, and other sources.
