One of the most notable members of the New York School and its most prominent woman, Barbara Guest is the author of over twenty books of poetry and fiction. The most recent to appear is The Collected Poems of Barbara Guest (Wesleyan Poetry). Other major works include The Red Gaze (Wesleyan Poetry), Forces of Imagination (Kelsey Street Press), Miniatures and Other Poems (Wesleyan Poetry), and Symbiosis (Kelsey Street Press). She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Frost Medal for Distinguished Lifetime Achievement from the Poetry Society of America.

Simians, Cyborgs and Women is a powerful collection of ten essays written between 1978 and 1989. Although on the surface, simians, cyborgs and women may seem an odd threesome, Haraway describes their profound link as “creatures” which have had a great destabilizing place in Western evolutionary technology and biology. Throughout this book, Haraway analyzes accounts, narratives, and stories of the creation of nature, living organisms, and cyborgs. At once a social reality and a science fiction, the cyborg—a hybrid of organism and machine—represents transgressed boundaries and intense fusions of the nature/culture split. By providing an escape from rigid dualisms, the cyborg exists in a post-gender world, and as such holds immense possibilities for modern feminists. First published in 1991.

Produced on the occasion of 2 exhibitions at Jablonka Galerie, Mills & Monument to a Foot both in 1996. Since 1984, when he was struck by the sculptural quality of a vole trap, he has been known for complex variations on the animal trap as sculpture, as well as a variety of conceptual projects that probe ideas about art and its reception.
